Letter from the Elder Tree
To the Families of our Community
They call me Oaky.
I have stood in this clearing since the days of the first acorn. I have seen the seasons turn, the winds blow, and the forest change, but my roots have remained right here, wrapped around the stones and deep within earth.
I know what it’s like to be a small sapling in a very big woods. I know that sometimes the world moves a little too fast, and the climb feels a little too high. That is why I grew my branches out wide and my bark thick. I am here to be your anchor.
In my Playgrove, we focus on the roots that help a sapling stand tall:
We find the quiet in our leaves so our hearts can stay calm when the winds of big feelings blow. (Emotional Regulation)
We learn to reach for the sun on our own, gaining the strength to try new things and master our own branches. (Independence & Self-Care)
We rustle together in the breeze, learning the songs of our friends and how to grow side-by-side in the sunlight. (Social Skills & Language)
We stretch our limbs and dig deep into the soil, building the sturdy trunks and strong bodies that hold us steady. (Fine & Gross Motor)
And we learn the wisdom of the forest, figuring out how to weather the storms and solve the puzzles of the clearing. (Executive Function)
I will be here while you find your footing, and I don’t mind if you take your time. In this Grove, we don't rush the growth. We focus on the roots.
Under my canopy, you will find a glow that turns a regular afternoon into a spark of wonder. And within my forest, you will find the strength to climb, knowing that my roots are holding you steady from below.
Welcome. I’ve been watching the horizon for you, and I am so glad you’re finally here.
Stay Rooted,
Oaky
